Potential SEPTA Service Disruption

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

Members of the Transport Workers Union Local 234 may strike if union leaders and SEPTA negotiators are unable to reach an agreement before their contract expires at midnight on Monday, November 1, 2021. A strike of these workers would shut down service of busses, trolleys, and subways in Philadelphia. This interruption would not impact Regional Rail, Suburban transit, LUCY and CCT connect. In the event of a strike, we would anticipate increased traffic volume and associated delays.

In the event of a strike we will notify campus via the Emergency Alert System including text, email, and an alert on the USciences.edu website.

Please complete this survey so that we can assess the impact on our community.

We ask all students, faculty, and staff to prepare alternative transportation and work/study plans in advance of the possible strike if you may be impacted.  Affected employees should discuss short-term alternative work arrangements with their supervisors as necessary. Affected students should work with their program leadership and faculty to identify options if needed.  Alternate transportation options include carpooling, rideshare services (e.g., Lyft or Uber), biking, or walking.

SEPTA has created a guide outlining service impacts in the event of a service interruption.

Thank you,

The USciences Emergency Response Team
