FYSA Announcement - West Philly Community Strike – 17 Feb 2017 – 1300-1500pm

Dear Campus Community,

On Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, from approximately 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., there will be a gathering in Clark Park in support of National Strike Day. Designated as the “West Philly Community Strike,” the gathering point for this event has been established as 43rd and Baltimore Avenues.

Please be aware that given the proximity of this event to our campus, this event could potentially impact travel to and from campus. It is suggested that you have an alternate route planned to avoid this area.

While we do not anticipate a disruption to University operations, classes, or building access, the Department of Public Safety will monitor the situation and provide updates via text alert, email, and the website, if necessary.

As always, the campus is reminded to call USciences Public Safety at 215-596-7000 or 911 in the event of emergency situation.

Sincerely,

Michael Stitley

USciences Inclement Weather Procedures

Dear Campus Community,

Due to the threat of inclement weather for tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with USciences inclement weather procedures.

In general, USciences’ practice is to remain open and to conduct business as usual during periods of inclement weather; however, the University is committed to the safety and security of its faculty, staff, and students. The decision to cancel classes, close university offices, and/or cancel or postponeUSciences sponsored programs or activities is based on this overall concern.

Decisions to cancel classes/close offices at the University or delay the opening of the University will be communicated to the University community by 5:30 a.m. via email, text message, media outlets, and the University’s usciences.edu and emergency (http://emergency.usciences.edu) websites. (For evening programs, the same process as noted above will be enacted and a decision regarding the campus response will be made by no later than 2:00 p.m.)

  • Faculty, staff, and students should refer to the overall inclement weather policy found on Blackboard in the University Policies folder for additional information and guidelines.
  • A reminder that students on rotations and at clinical sites should follow the procedures of their sites.
  • For on-site classes, faculty and students should also refer to the inclement weather policy found on Blackboard in the Office of the Provost community for information regarding missed classes, labs, and/or exams.
  • Online classes will be expected to continue.
  • Facilities, Sodexo, and Public Safety are considered essential personnel and will be notified of the staffing plan by their supervisor prior to the storm to ensure necessary coverage.

Earliest notification of weather-related changes will be through the emergency text alerts system.  Please make sure you are signed up for this service or take a moment today to make sure your contact information is up to date at https://alert.usciences.edu

Thank you,

USciences Emergency Management Team
