9/1/11: Robberies Reported

The Department of Public Safety is issuing an alert to inform the University community of two robberies that occurred on Tuesday, August 30, 2011. The first was an armed robbery and the second was unarmed.


 The first robbery occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. on the 4000 Block of Woodland Avenue. The suspects were described as two African American males in their twenty’s, one wearing black pants and a black hat, and no description given of the second suspect.  


The second robbery occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on the 4400 Block of Spruce Street. The suspects were described as three African American males; one wore blue jeans and no shirt, the second wore a long-sleeved black shirt, and no description given of the third suspect.


The Department of Public Safety offers the following awareness tips: 


  • Use the shuttle, bus or walking escort services  
  • Pay attention to your surroundings, even while texting or talking on the phone
  • Travel in groups when possible, particularly after dark
  • Use well-lit and busy walkways
  • Report all incidents to the Police and Department of Public Safety
